Introduction
Independence Day is more than a celebration.
It’s a story of freedom, resilience, and national pride.
India Post has honoured this journey through stamps, covers, and postal stationery.
This year, let’s look back at the 25th, 50th, and 75th Independence anniversaries — each captured in philatelic treasures.
25th Anniversary – 1972

Issued on 15 August 1972, this FDC features a bold design with the Ashoka Chakra at the centre and illustrations of national progress. The stamp shows citizens carrying the national flag in front of the Parliament.
50th Anniversary – 1997

The Golden Jubilee series celebrated India’s progress and paid homage to martyrs. Released on 15 August 1997, the FDC design incorporated the original 1947 flag stamp alongside new commemoratives.
