A Unique Evening at Indore’s Food Street
Indore has always been known for its food, and at the center of it all stands Chappan Dukan. On 16th September 2025, this iconic food street was celebrated in a philatelic way. A picture postcard and special pictorial cancellation were released right at Chappan under the theme “छप्पन के रंग, डाकघर के संग.” The evening brought together food lovers, philatelists, and officials, all united by a common love for culture.
Guests and the Release Function

The function was graced by Ms. Preeti Agarwal, IPoS, Postmaster General of Indore Region, and Mr. Shivansu Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Indore Division. Their presence highlighted the importance of the occasion. With collectors, visitors, and local residents in attendance, the release carried the flavor of a true community celebration.
The Designs by Er. Chirag Trivedi

The special cancellation, designed by Er. Chirag Trivedi, beautifully reflects the identity of Chappan Dukan Indore. It carries the bold Hindi word “छप्पन” at the center, with the phrase “clean street – food hub” in English placed above in a smaller font. The simplicity of the design highlights both local flavor and modern recognition, making it a memorable addition for philatelists.
The pictorial postcard complements this by featuring the famous selfie point of Chappan Dukan. The same “clean street – food hub” inscription in English and “छप्पन” in Hindi are prominently displayed. To add vibrancy, the postcard also illustrates a variety of food items that represent Indore’s rich street food culture. Together, the card and cancellation transform the everyday flavors of Chappan into enduring postal art.
Chappan Dukan Beyond Food
What makes the release even more special is the theme itself. Chappan Dukan Indore is no ordinary street. Established in the 1970s, it has grown from a small market into the pride of the city. Redeveloped in 2020 as a smart food street, today it is a no-vehicle zone buzzing with lights, laughter, and flavors. From poha-jalebi to modern fusion snacks, Chappan is a place where everyone finds a favorite dish. It even has its own radio station, making it a first of its kind in Madhya Pradesh.
Philately Meets Culture

By issuing a cancellation and postcard on Chappan, the Department of Posts has captured more than a street. It has preserved a cultural memory. Philately is at its best when it tells stories of people and places, and this release does exactly that. Collectors now hold in their albums a piece of Indore’s food heritage. For tourists, it becomes a charming keepsake; for Indoris, a matter of pride that their favorite food street is honored in ink.
Closing Notes
The release evening ended with the same warmth that defines Chappan itself. Conversations flowed, laughter echoed, and the aroma of food filled the air. With the postcard and cancellation now part of philatelic history, the spirit of Chappan will live on for generations — not just on plates, but also on stamps.
