Have you ever visited a new city and wondered if there is a post office nearby with a Permanent Pictorial Cancellation (PPC)? Or travelled somewhere only to realise later that you missed one?
We have faced this problem too. So, we decided to build a small tool to make things easier.
Introducing PPC Compass!
PPC Compass is a free, simple tool to help philatelists locate post offices offering Permanent Pictorial Cancellations across India.
What can you do with it?
The idea is simple. Open the website, allow location access or select a starting location, and explore the PPCs nearby.
You can:
- Find PPCs within 25, 50 or 100 km of your selected location.
- See the straight-line distance to each post office.
- Search for a particular PPC or post office.
- Open Google Maps for directions.
- Save your favourite PPC locations for later.
It can be particularly useful when planning a philatelic trip. If you collect PPCs or maintain a Philately Passport, you can check which post offices to include in your travel plans.
Instead of searching through different lists and maps, you can find the locations in one place.
How complete is the list?
We have currently updated Odisha, while Tamil Nadu is partially covered.
We are working to add as many PPC locations from other states as possible over the next few days.
This is still a work in progress. Some details may need corrections.
We need your help!
If you use PPC Compass, please share your feedback. Suggestions and criticism are equally welcome.
More importantly, if you know the exact location of a post office offering a PPC, please help us with its details. Even a Google Maps location or coordinates would be useful.
If you notice a missing PPC, an incorrect location or outdated information, do let us know.
Share your feedback, suggestions or corrections in the comments below, or write to us at rd.philately@gmail.com.
The aim is to make this a useful travel companion for the philatelic community. The more accurate the information, the easier it becomes for everyone to plan their PPC visits.
Give it a try: PPC Compass
And please share it with fellow philatelists, especially those collecting PPCs and using Philately Passports.
Happy collecting and happy travelling!
