India Post has introduced a Permanent Pictorial Cancellation at the Sandesh Museum of Communication in Bengaluru on 19.05.2025.
This pictorial postmark, celebrates the legacy of India’s postal system and its role in connecting lives through generations.
Release Ceremony
The cancellation was released by Shri S. Rajendra Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Smt. V. Tara, Director of Postal Services, Bengaluru Region, Mr. Sushil Mehra, Eminent Philatelist from Bengaluru and other guests.

Their presence underscored the importance of preserving and promoting India’s rich postal legacy.
About the Cancellation
A Permanent Pictorial Cancellation is a special postmark available year-round at select post offices, featuring a unique design that represents the heritage or identity of that location.


This Cancellation is now available year-round and can be obtained by posting letters or postcards from the museum itself. The cancellation features a line art of the museum’s building.
It’s a meaningful addition for collectors and a tribute to India’s communication heritage.
About the Sandesh Museum of Communication
Located on Museum Road, Bengaluru, the museum is housed in a 140-year-old heritage building.
It once served as a Government Museum, a jail supervisor’s residence, and a bank, before becoming part of the General Post Office.
In 2019, this historic building was carefully restored and opened as the Sandesh Museum of Communication, dedicated entirely to India’s postal and communication history.

Sandesha Gallery
Stamps related to Indian festivals, literature, music, and cinema.
Special collections on Mysore Anche, freedom movement, and cultural milestones.
Samparka Gallery
Devices used in early communication:
Morse code machines, adding machines, mail bomb detectors, and more.
Samputa Gallery
Tells the story of postal inspectors.
Includes a preserved 1889 report, old mailbags, sorting cases, and images of the Floating Post Office on Dal Lake.
Samvahana Gallery
Displays the VSAT satellite system once used to send money orders across India.
Sangathi Gallery
Showcases everyday postal tools: restored clocks, brass weights, and colored bags used by postmen.
Sangraha Gallery
A highlight for philatelists!
Features the Penny Black (world’s first stamp, UK 1840) and tools like philascopes and signascopes to inspect stamps.
