India added another milestone to its space programme on 29 August 2026, when GSLV-F17 successfully placed EOS-05 into its intended Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. EOS-05 is an Earth-observation spacecraft and India’s first imaging satellite designed for observations from geosynchronous orbit.
To commemorate the achievement, a special pictorial cancellation featuring the GSLV/EOS-05 mission was provided at Mumbai GPO (400001) on 4 September 2026. The cancellation carries the inscription “Successful Launch of EOS-05 Mission” along with a line illustration representing the spacecraft/launch mission.
The cover shown here is transmitted through Speed Post, with postal handling labels and markings on both sides, and bears the official cachet of the Philatelic Bureau, Mumbai GPO of same day.
