A new philatelic identity was added to Laxman Jhula, Rishikesh, on 30 July 2026.
On this day, the Uttarakhand Postal Circle introduced a Permanent Pictorial Cancellation (PPC) at Laxmanjhula Sub Office. The cancellation features a pictorial representation of the famous suspension bridge associated with this historic location.
Laxman Jhula in a Postmark
Laxman Jhula is one of the most recognisable landmarks of Rishikesh. The historic suspension bridge across the Ganga has long been closely associated with the town’s religious and tourist identity.
The new PPC captures this landmark in miniature and gives collectors another interesting postal connection with Rishikesh.
An Inaugural-Day Travelled Cover
The cover shown here is particularly interesting because it was posted on 30 July 2026 – the inaugural day of the PPC.
It is a ₹5 India Post postal stationery envelope cancelled with the newly introduced Laxmanjhula PPC and subsequently booked through Speed Post from Laxmanjhula SO (249302).
Collector’s Note
Permanent Pictorial Cancellations are fascinating because they connect Indian postal history directly with geography and local heritage.
Temples, monuments, wildlife, architecture and historic landmarks can all find their way onto a postmark.
