India Post released a Special Cover marking the 25th anniversary of Lagaan on 30 June 2026 at Mumbai. It was released by Shri Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle. The first album was presented to Aamir Khan.
The ceremony was attended by director Ashutosh Gowariker, senior postal officials, philatelist Savita Jhingan and other dignitaries.
Philatelic Details
Issue: Lagaan Silver Jubilee Celebration 2001–2026
Date: 30 June 2026
Place: Mumbai 400001
Cover number: MH/18/2026
Printing: 2,000 numbered copies
Price: ₹20, excluding postage

The cover features Bhuvan and other principal characters from the film. A ₹5 150 Years of Vande Mataram commemorative stamp is tied with a pictorial Lagaan Silver Jubilee cancellation.

The reverse carries information about the film in Marathi, Hindi and English.
It describes the colonial setting, the drought-stricken village of Champaner and the cricket challenge offered by British officer Captain Russell. It also summarises the larger themes of the film, including dignity, unity, freedom and survival.
The multilingual text makes the cover useful as a small historical document. Even someone unfamiliar with the film can understand its basic storyline and importance.
Collector’s Note
Despite the stated printing of 2,000 copies, only 75 covers were supplied to each of the six philatelic bureaus under Maharashtra Circle-a total bureau allocation of just 450 copies.
As this was a proponent-backed Special Cover, its general postal distribution was considerably more restricted than the printed quantity suggests.
The limited bureau supply, combined with the popularity of Lagaan and Aamir Khan, led to the cover being quickly sought after by collectors of modern Indian cinema and thematic philately.
